Who we are
FreeChessTrainer (freechesstrainer.com) is run from Morocco by the person behind the site. For anything on this page, write to [email protected].
What stays on your device
The drills need to remember a few things, so your browser keeps them for this site. None of it is sent to us, and we can’t see it.
You can delete all of it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings. Your scores will start again from zero.
| Where | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Local storage | Your theme (light or dark) and board colors | So the site looks the way you chose, from the first second |
| IndexedDB | Finished drill runs (which drill, score, length, side, date) and drill settings | To show your best score and remember your settings |
| Cache storage | Copies of the site’s pages and files | So the drills keep working offline |
What we don’t collect
- No accounts, sign-up forms or passwords.
- No cookies. The storage described above isn’t cookies and is never sent with your requests.
- No analytics, tracking pixels or session recordings.
- No third-party scripts, fonts or embeds: every file comes from our own domain.
- We don’t sell or share personal information, and we never have.
Server logs
Like every website, the pages are delivered by a web host, in our case Hostinger. Each request carries technical details: your IP address, browser type, the page asked for and the time. Hostinger processes this on our behalf to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
We don’t use these logs to identify or profile visitors. They’re kept only as long as needed for security and to keep the site running. You can read how Hostinger handles data in Hostinger’s privacy policy.
If you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to reply, keep them no longer than needed, and delete them sooner if you ask.
Advertising (not active yet)
There are no ads on FreeChessTrainer today. Later, we may show ads from Google AdSense to help pay for hosting. Before that happens, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Once ads are active:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other websites.
- Google’s advertising cookies let Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and opt out of other vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland will be asked for consent first, through a consent tool certified by Google.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites like this one in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Legal bases (EU and UK)
Keeping your preferences and scores on your device is strictly necessary for features you choose to use, so it doesn’t need consent. Server logs and replies to your emails rely on our legitimate interest in running a safe website and answering you. Personalised ads, if we add them, will rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. In practice we hold almost nothing: usually just an email you sent us. Data on your device is yours to delete whenever you like.
In the European Union and the UK, the GDPR also gives you the right to data portability and to complain to your national data protection authority. In Morocco, Law 09-08 gives you the right to access, correct and object, and you can contact the CNDP. In the United States, including California, you have the right to know and to delete, and we don’t sell or share personal information or treat you differently for using your rights.
To make a request, write to [email protected]. We’ll answer within 30 days.
Children
Chess is for all ages and the site is for a general audience. Because there are no accounts or forms, we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). If a child has emailed us, a parent can ask us to delete the message.
Visitors from other countries
FreeChessTrainer is run from Morocco and is used around the world. Our host may store server logs in data centres outside your country, under its own safeguards.
Changes to this policy
If anything changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Important changes, such as switching on ads, will be described here before they take effect.
